Stress can affect the right amount of sleep that you need. If you are carrying over the stress of the day over into nighttime, chances are you are not going to get a good quality of sleep. While it can impossible not to take our problems to bed with us, it is very important that we do what we can to solve or lighten the load of the problems so they do not start to affect the way we sleep. A problem like stress can be a huge issue when getting to sleep but perhaps if you were to do some relaxation methods before sleeping you may be able to get a good night sleep. Try taking a warm bubble bath, scents like lavender are said to be soothing and relaxing. Read a book, try to read a few chapters of a book you have been wanting to read, it will get you nice and relaxed. Have a cup of tea or a glass of wine before bed. Stay away from the sugar drinks and foods before bed. Also, do not exercise within a 3-hour period of going to sleep; exercise is an energizer for some people.
Some people suggest sleep aids, if you are considering going down that route, we recommend talking to your doctor before taking any over the counter medications. In fact, if you tell your doctor that you are having trouble sleeping they may be able to offer advice or prescribe something herbal that will help you get to sleep. In the event that you have a hard time getting to sleep, we recommend napping during the day if possible, if you can't get a full nights sleep then you may be able to get some sleep during the day.
Try making a list of the things that stress you out, now take each thing that is bothering you and come up with a few solutions to each problem. Once you have done that have a cup of tea and try to get some sleep. You may need to try different combinations of help in order to get some sleep or the faster your problems are solved the sooner you get a good nights sleep.
