What Is Stress and Its Causes
Stress is basically defined as a physical and normal response to certain events that make you feel threatened, upset or unbalanced in some way. Stress happens when you sense some type of danger whether it is real or just imagined and in some people it can send them into a fight or flight mode. It is said that stress actually protects your body. When stress on your body is working the right way, it can help you appear more focuses, more alert and more energetic. In an emergency situation, stress can in fact save your life.
Stress in some people can help them accomplish their goals by the feeling of necessity. If you are stressed at work, it can help you stay focused on one task at a time and help you get the job done right and then you can move on to the next task. Stress is can be a great motivator when it needs to be. On the other hand, stress can cause some people to shut down; they become less productive and more inclined to stop what they are doing rather than pushing forward.
There are many different symptoms of stress; you have cognitive symptoms, physical symptoms, emotional and behavioral. Some of the Cognitive Symptoms may be Memory Issues, Inability to Concentrate, Poor Judgment and Constant Worrying. The Physical Symptoms may include Aches and Pains, Chest Pain, Loss of Sex Drive and Frequent Colds. Emotional Symptoms include Moodiness, Feeling Overwhelmed, Depression and Agitation. Lastly, Behavioral Symptoms include Eating either less or more, Isolating yourself from others and Using Alcohol, Smoking to relieve the stress.
Now that we have seen what stress can do to someone but let's see what causes stress. Different stresses and different pressures can cause stress have been known to us as stressors, normally stressors have been known to be negative in the form of a bad relationship, working too much, not enough money to pay the bills. Then you have stressors that come from positive things like having a baby, getting married, buying a home or even getting that well deserved promotion.
Stress has been said to be either negative or positive based on your won perception. One thing that causes you a lot of stress may not cause someone else the same feelings. Everyone handles stress differently and what they perceive to be stress. Stress can be caused by outside factors too, some of these include Major Life Changes, Work, Children and Family and Financial Problems.
Stress has been known to cause physical ailments too, as we mentioned before stress can cause Migraines, Depression, Aches and Pains, Sleep Problems, Autoimmune problems and even Skin Conditions. When these go untreated you can make the conditions worse. You may have to learn to manage stress; this can be done by changing the situations if you can, try to enlist others to help you resolve the problems.
